Jaybees Low Tech Podcast Quick Hit NIL w/ Jay-Bee
Monday Jun 19, 2023
Monday Jun 19, 2023
For the First time I open the mail bag. I read a couple of comments from listeners.
To do so just write to me at Jaybee780@comcast.net
Today , I went deeper into a topic to explain the who, what, when & how of Name Image & Likeness (NIL).
Who is eligible to receive NIL $$$$.
Why are the athletes now athletes getting the money.
Where can they go to get it.
How it is effecting college sports landscape.
Look at the possible jealousy, the illegal ways it is being applied and people who are benefit from it outside of the athletes. I also, discussed the effect on the schools they play for and it's not the end and and be all of pay for athletes.
Some call it the wild, wild west some call it justice, but all call agree it's only the beginning of steps towards play to and the fall outs of that.

Jaybees Low Tech Podcast QUICK HIT on NCAA Conference Realignment
Monday Jun 12, 2023
Monday Jun 12, 2023
This quick hit deals with the reason for Athletic Programs jumping from conference to another and the real reasons why the are doing so. Yes, it's about money, not the money you all think about. The thirst more live Sports/content is feeding budgets of B1G time athletics. As we know sports are the true last reality TV. To see outcomes as some bet on games. For some it's the ties of our fandom. More than ever college administrators are using large media deals to make their Athletic Depts self reliant , but also 2-4 hr long commercials for their to recruit. Not to recruit Athletes, but regular student body and the brightest minds. Winning championships has been shown to lead to more student applications building your alumni base which can lead to more donations and more endowments money. School are not only to win on the field, but in the research world. To be ranked, just like their athletic teams. They are not only fighting to get in the B1G money deal media conference, also, the AAU. No, I'm not talking about basketball. I'm talking the Assoc. of American Universities. These are the top research schools in the nation. This also drives endowments and their incentives in the President of Universities contracts to obtain bonuses. By the way the endowments funds are control by Hedge fund managers. The whole of colleges has gone corporate.

Saturday Jun 03, 2023
Trying something different . Taking my 40+ yrs of experience in College athletics and inform and entertain others on what's happening in College Athletics.
This weeks subject is College Athletic Travel. Just trying to better inform the masses on the topic.
You will hear members of the media wax poetically about this is going put extra toll on the athletes. Also, how this going drive the cost of running athletic teams. I say, not much will change and I give examples of why I think that. Plus, why I think the Media is mis-informing the public on travel.

One of the main themes of this podcast is me visiting back in time to my youth and interviewing people who profound effect on my life. This person is diffidently one of those People. His name is Travis brown and he was my current event/history teacher and Basketball Coach. Here is the the inside tidbit on the story. I never played high school basketball. Find out my role as you listen to the episode. Born in the same neighborhood that I grew up in, Coach Brown look back at the not so mean street of St. Lous and how they shaped and influenced us. Having some of the same mentors many years apart only show similar our lives were. Coach Brown journey took him from being a state champion to a college star, only to return where it all it began. Like welcome back Carter or the White Shadow or in his case the Black Shadow. We discuss his very early success as a coach only to followed up the next season with his worst year as a coach. Coach gives us insights into what he learned from those two year. Coach Brown continued to climb the ladder and became an administrator. The Principle at our rival high school and what lesson that he learned there. As this was happening he was being name to very high honors and I'll let you learn what they are when you listen to this podcast. He told me what made him leave the coaching ranks and never looked back. We chatted about the players, practices and games that shaped us both. We finished up giving our opinions on the world of today's game at all levels.

Jaybees Low Tech Podcast Re-Creating one’s Self W/ Capt. Alan ”Link” Johnson
Wednesday Apr 26, 2023
Wednesday Apr 26, 2023
With the advent of the new George Forman movie, it got me to thinking about how all re-create ourselves over the years. Then it made me want to reach out to my old college roomie Alan "Link" Johnson , a man who over the years has done just that. From his early start in MPLS as an youth. The tales he told about his Dad and the things that he invented as child in Duluth , MN. Which explained why we had free cable as roommates. LOL. Link moved from being a College student, meeting his wife of 33years and dating in college. (the 5th roommate Teresa). Also, covered the how and why he became a MPLS fireman ending with the rank of Captain. We talked about things most people do not know about firemen. Also, what he thinks about the way the they are portrayed on T.V. the days. After taking it easy in retirement Link was pushed to find something to get out the chair. Link became a School Bus Driver for a few years. He informed me of the ups and downs of getting our youth to school. We re-capped our bowling triumph and how bowling lead to the his latest Business venture. A small business creating bowling Shirts, Golf shirts and embroidery. The techniques he has learned and the things he learns on to make his business grow.

The Musical Spectrum of Autism W/Stephen Flinn
Wednesday Apr 12, 2023
Wednesday Apr 12, 2023
As the world continues to learn more & more about Autism. We have found ways to help those children and young adults live a better life on the spectrum. Today's guest is a great help for many on the spectrum. Stephen Flinn. Stephen Autism Educator who uses music and percussion to teach Academic Concepts, Positive Communication and Social Skills.
Stephen and I discussed his upbringing and how education wasn't really his thing. How he bounced around to find himself. Being exposed to music help him find is purpose in life. He recalls always being a home full music.
Stephen also talked about is program and how interacts with his students in positive, but challenging manner. We chatted about how is Percussion lessons are successful in addressing cognitive, emotional, and physical goals. Plus, through a perceptual motor match: VISUAL, TACTILE, and AUDITORY combined with speech (good for not yet verbal students too), the student sees the lessons, feels it, and hears it as they say the answers out loud. It is this redundancy of information that provides positive results.
Stephen has written numerous articles for Modern Drummer and Downbeat magazines, and just released his first book, “Contemporary Urban Percussion.” He is a graduate of Seattle University.
